Born in the Comoro Islands and landed in Marseille when he was a child, Ahamada Smis invites us in a musical journey between hip-hop and world music.

His second album “Origines” (Colombe Records / L’autre Distribution) has been released in the Automn of 2013. Its artistic basis is a fusion of traditional music from the Indian Ocean with urban poetry, in an afro-ngoma spirit (a Comorian afrobeat).

“Origines” was recorded during a trip as an artist in residence leading musical creation workshops in Mayotte, Grand Comore, Anjouan, Dar Es Salaam, Zanzibar and Reunion.
There, Ahamada Smis drew inspiration from the origins of sambé, twarab, mgodro, maloya, deba (all of them part of the arabo-bantu heritage of the Indian Ocean).

For this album, Ahamada Smis has collaborated with more than twenty artists, among the most talented from these islands. We can find Maalesh, Abou Chihabi, Soubi (gabousi), Diho (Dzenze), the women of the moon, the singer Christine Salem, Mohamed Issa Matona (oud, violon), Rajab Souleiman (qanun) and the Safar band (Afro taarab groove) from Zanzibar.
